New, hybrid log home attractive and energy-efficient

Log homes today aren’t necessarily accompanied by the problems and complications of past years. Sal and Denise Campagna wanted the look and feel of a log home with better insulation and without the usual problems caused by settling and shrinkage.

They had built their first hybrid log home in 1996 and moved into it in 1998 in the rural Lawrence area after Sal retired from banking in Chicago. Both are part-time sales representatives for Expedition Homes, a company based in Oostburg, Wisc., that helps people build their own hybrid log homes.

As they learned about innovations in the industry, they felt they could make improvements with another home, so they built this second hybrid log house at a new location on a ten-acre apple orchard in 2006.
